Our 3rd day started with a coach ride directly to Italy again the shores of Lago Maggiore. We took a boat over to the Borromean Islands which are privately owned but opened for visits to the castello, it’s amazing gardens & the still remaining village. The name derives from the Borromeo family who acquired the islands in the 16th century and still holds a greater part of the islands today. Our guide said she’s part of the wider family – wonder whether that was a joke or whether really someone who owns their own islands would work as a tourist guide. However, she was a great tour guide, very knowledgable and also blessed with great humor.
